An Open Letter to Colin Kaepernick
United States of America

On August 26, 2016, during a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, you made a decision; a decision that would greatly impact your future, but also the future of this country. We can only imagine the uneasiness and uncertainty you felt before making that decision, but we are so thankful for you and your fortitude in standing up for a demographic that is under siege by their own country and speaking out against police brutality and the other injustices that people of color experience in America.
There have been many celebrities and public figures who have had the power and privilege to influence thought and become a change agent, particularly in regard to police brutality, however many have not felt the moral obligation that you feel to make a difference. You understand the old adage that says, “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
Although you do have some level of privilege as a professional athlete, you weren’t blinded by that, and supported what is morally right - with hopes to make our country a better place for us all. Your values and moral compass do not go unnoticed, as you are the definition of a selfLESS leader.
I can’t wait for future generations to read and learn about your resolve in the face of adversity. The world will be a better place because of your actions. You are brave. You are fearless. You are our inspiration. And you are a super-hero. Thank you, Colin Kaepernick.
